I was thrilled to be asked to contribute to this exhibition of work by Shirley-Ann Galbraith. As on of the guest artists I'll be showing a new piece of work called 'Mothers Operating System (MOS)' - it's still work in progress so images will be posted soon. All I can say is that it's textile based and one of the smallest and most delicate pieces of work I've ever made!
The subject of the Unthought Known is fascinating. It's a psychoanalytical term coined by Christopher Bollas in his book The Shadow of the Object. It refers to, amongst other things, how our pre-verbal early experiences unconsciously influence our behaviour as an adult, citing the mother as a transformational object and how we pursue such similar objects in later life.
The exhibition will run from 1 - 29 August at Below 65 Gallery in Maidstone.
The private view will be held on Thursday 6 August between 6.30 - 9pm. Please come along.
