Filaments Art Collective
Filaments are a group of five Kent based contemporary artists - Elizabeth Burman, Karen Crosby, Rosie James, Ruth Payne and myself.
We create art events and installations using a range of media including light, thread, projections, paper, neon and reflective materials.
Our inaugural show in January 2020 was a weekend light event in the ancient church of St Mary’s at Burham. Since then, we have held more events at St Mary’s, exhibited on board the historic light ship of LV21, participated in Gravesend winter light events, created a light installation for the Glow Arts trail in Maidstone and lit up the windows of Intra Arts for Medway Light Nights.
Our works are often site-specific, responding to the local history, the natural environment, and the architecture of the buildings/spaces themselves. Depending on the project we might create works individually or work collaboratively to produce installations on a larger-scale.
Boxheads Performance
Boxheads is a collaboration between myself and Ruth Payne.
This performance of Shipping Forecast took place on Whitstable beach as part of Stephane Trois Carres N+1 #7 installation/performance for Whitstable Satellite 2014 and coordinated by Collaborative Research Group (CRG).
9 artists performed twice with each performance lasting for 3 minutes. The recording of the performance was then projected behind the next performer building up layers of performances similar to the layers of a painting.
The Boxheads performance starts at around 7 minutes - click on the link in the box below.
